How do you up your 8 yr old's bedtime when you have a 4 and 5 yr old as well? I have an 8 yr old who has been nagging to go to bed at a later time. Currently all of our kids have to be in bed by 7 Pm otherwise the night never ends and I pull my hair out. I totally understand her reasons behind wanting to stay up later, but the fear is if I let her stay up and do things, I might as well let all of them stay up until 8 Pm. Any advice on how to deal with split bedtimes between ages of kids?

I had a similar situation with two little ones (3,4) and then my old sons were (8,10). We compromised and let the little ones stay up 30 minutes longer until 7:30 and then the older ones got to stay up until 8:30, but they had to play quietly in their rooms or do something that would not get the others excited to see what was happening. As much as I do not like video games, we tried to work any earned DS time to be played right before bed in their rooms.

I had the same problem with my 3 daughters. I ended up letting my oldest child stay up 30 minutes longer than usual, the middle child 15 minutes longer, and the youngest at the regular bedtime. We would have a special night where they could all stay up later longer. The kids that are up later, need to sit and read or do other quiet activities so the other kids can't hear what is going on and want to join in. It is a challenge, but I remember wanting to stay up longer than my brother and sister when I was younger. It is a huge big deal!
