Lessons start from the ground up, with each participant helping to groom and tack up their mount, and learning the basic safety rules and barn ettiquette to make it an enjoyable and educational experience for everyone involved. Every student begins on the longe line, (a long line held by the instructor) to better evaluate their abilities, and then to promote better balance, so that learning will progress faster. Balancing exercises are used throughout the levels, to keep the rider supple and well-aligned.
