OCCYC is a nonprofit organization, established in 1994. OCCYC's Founder and Artistic Director is Sandra R. Miller, a professional musician and music teacher with a special interest in children's music. A volunteer board appointed by Mrs. Miller assists with various aspects of OCCYC's operations. In the 2008-09 season, OCCYC will have three choirs with a combined membership of approximately 150 singers.
The Preparatory Choir, or Choir I, consists of singers who are entering grades one through three. Choir I performs at two formal concerts a year, in the winter and spring. They also may be invited to perform at other special events throughout the year.
The Oregon Children's Choir, or Choir II, is made up of singers in grades four through eight. Choir II performs at winter and spring concerts as well as other events scheduled throughout the year.
The Oregon Youth Chorale, or Choir III, consists of high school students in grades nine through twelve. Choir III performs at winter and spring concerts as well as at other events scheduled throughout the year. Smaller groups from Choir III may also be invited to perform at private parties and gatherings, or for other special occasions.

This is our first year on the choir. My daughter absolutely loves it. She is in Choir I and is a 3rd grader. Bruce who is the director of her choir is also a music teacher in the public school system. So he is very good with this age of kids. I am amazed how how much she has improved just since September and this is not a chore to her. It is fun and she wants to do it every week. We have tried other music lessons and programs, but she quickly lost interest and didn't want to practice.

My daughter attended a summer camp - called Oregon Idol through the Lake Oswego Community school program. She has always wanted to sing on stage and this was a great way for her to test out her abilities and her confidence on the stage. This is a well organized group who takes good care of the kids. My daughter loved it so much that she did two weeks of the same camp. At the end of the camp they asked if she would like to audition for the children's choir. She did well at the audition and was accepted into the choir. This is a great stepping stone to test out the talent and to allow your kids the opportunity to sing in front of a crowd.
