Overview

Finnegan’s Toys and Gifts Inc, the Northwest’s largest independent toy store, has been locally owned and operated for almost thirty years. Opening in 1977 as Finnegan’s Toys (no gifts yet!), we opened our first store on the corner of tenth and Washington in Downtown Portland. We moved once a year for the next three years growing a little with each move. In 1980 we settled into our present location at 922 SW Yamhill and have slowly expanded our store and our stockrooms as our neighbors moved out.
The name Finnegan’s comes from Karen’s childhood Nickname. Her brother called her Finnegan after reading a children’s book that has a cat with the same name. The book is also the source of our Logo. The ‘Gifts’ part of our name was added a couple of years after opening when Karen started visiting tradeshows and finding things for older ‘kids’.
Finnegan’s currently employs over 25 people and we more than double our staff over the holidays. Many of our past employee’s visit and shop often as their own families grow.
Many people, native Portlander’s and visitors alike, make us a regular destination for fun and shopping for kids of all ages.

This toy store is awesome. This is not your typical mall toy store nor like the other big chains. It has an eclectic mix of toys that are hard to find, as well as the most popular toys out there. They are a little on the pricey side for somethings, however having to wait for something to ship to your house because you had to order it from the internet justifies paying higher prices for those hard to find toys.
If you take your kids be prepared to tell them "NO' lots of times and set limits on the time you are prepared to be there, otherwise you might be there all day.

Wow - when my child was younger, we could spend hours in there and he would be so happy. They've got the most amazing selection of toys, some very high end. You might be able to find things cheaper elsewhere, but this is your one stop shop for all of the coolest toys. They have lots of toys out that the kids can play with. Just be aware that there is so much to look at that your child may not want to leave.
