Overview
Last updated Mar-5-11
Just Like Home Childcare & Preschool, Inc. is one of White Salmon's finest licensed in-home daycares/preschools.
We are inviting families seeking care for their little ones to come check us out to see for themselves what we have to offer and to see if we are the right fit for you and your child. Take a look at our Virtual Tour: http://www.justlikehomeinc.com
We offer a fun, loving, safe, and educational environment for young children ages 11 and under.
Our daycare program is licensed through the State of Washington and is a certified “Eco-Friendly Childcare” through the Oregon Environmental Council. We actively participate in our local child care association, including taking monthly classes to keep up-to-date on child care issues.
We also participate in the Federal USDA Food Program for Children. We know how finicky children can be and provide healthy, nutritional, kid-friendly meals including breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
We’ve created a positive, cheery, and thriving atmosphere with plenty of fun and educational toys, books, games, sensory tables and activities, sand and water play, and much more.
Children enjoy dancing, music, storytelling, games, arts, crafts, etc. They love to help and even though it does take more time, we allow them to do the things they enjoy – helping to prepare and serve meals, older children putting bibs on younger children, sweeping the floor, picking up their bedding after naptime, etc.
Children are treated with kindness and respect and are spoken to at their eye level. We provide activities that are engaging and age-appropriate, and offer a clean and inviting environment. We also offer assistance in potty training. The children have their own bathroom that is clean and easy to access.
Parents tell us they find it comforting that their children are happy to come in the morning and are happy and playful when they pick them up at the end of the day.
Currently we have two rare openings. We are currently accepting children ages 2 years and older. On Monday's, we have one opening for children under age 2.
Come check us out and see if we’re the right fit for you and your child. Call Kathy at (509) 493-8646.
Preschool program
We provide a preschool program where each child learns at his or her own pace. We understand each child is unique and as such, we’ve tailored our program to meet their individual needs.
We have taken what we believe to be three of the best preschool philosophies and incorporated them into something that we feel works great for the children in our care:
“Learn Through Play” – “Reggio Emilia” – “Montessori”
We believe that each of these programs offer wonderful learning experiences for young children, including infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
While we have a separate space and time for preschool-age children getting ready for kindergarten, we also have developed ways to incorporate our preschool program so that everyone is included.
“Learning through play” provides a fun way for children to learn by doing what they do best – play and social interactions. We strongly support children participating in storytelling to allow them to use their own imaginations. We change our environment often, providing the children with a great variety of social, play, and educational experiences.
“Montessori” is structured to provide individual learning, multi-age classrooms, and a variety of work activities. Montessori incorporates the whole child in their social, emotional, and cognitive development – it’s a hands-on learning environment. Children use their senses to learn, something we do plenty of here. They learn at their own level and at their own pace as opposed to being teacher-directed.
“Reggio Emilia” is a project-based, student-directed, group learning environment that is less structured than the Montessori program. Students work with teachers to plan long-term projects. We do most of that during the spring and summer months when the children grow their own flowers and plants in our garden, feed and tend to our chickens in the play yard and watch the life cycles of frogs and butterflies, among other things.
