Overview
Last updated --
Fort Smallwood Park, a 100-acre park, is nestled along the Anne Arundel County shoreline near the mouth of the Patapsco River. Located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, Fort Smallwood Park offers a breath taking view as well as campgrounds, a playground, picnic areas, fishing, and pavilions.
On Oct. 27, 2005, Mayor Martin O'Malley and County Executive Janet S. Owens reached an agreement on the management and control of Fort Smallwood Park. Under the terms of the licensing agreement, Anne Arundel County will take over operational control and responsibility of the park's maintenance for a term of 45 years, with the option to renew.
Specifically, Anne Arundel County will control the scheduling and use of the park facilities, the establishment, collection, and benefit of entrance and use fees, the licensing of concessions, maintenance of buildings, grounds and facilities, and will have responsibility for security and public safety including police, fire response and enforcement.
In addition, Anne Arundel County will have the right to establish, charge, and collect park entry and use fees. However, Baltimore City residents will not be charged more than Anne Arundel County residents to enter the park or use any of its facilities.
