Overview
Last updated Dec-3-09
Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum features exhibits that are designed to surround visitors with the sights, sounds, and (sometimes) smells of Texas history. Each floor of exhibits highlights important chapters in state history through objects, media programs, and recreated environments.
The Museum's dramatic, three-story central exhibit atrium features a circa 1940 AT-6 "Texan" airplane, a full-scale windmill, the Capitol's original Goddess of Liberty, and a vintage "Texas" theater sign. Featuring the best objects from around the state, the Museum highlights enduring themes in Texas history on each floor.
The Museum also features a 60-foot digital Texas Timeline. Individual computer monitors connected to the Timeline allow visitors to explore different subjects of interest in Texas history. The computer center, located at the Museum's third floor rotunda level, gives visitors free access to information about other history museums, historic sites, and archives across the state.

This Museum is very clean and appealing. The exhibits are beautiful and well-displayed. Good for older kids who are interested in Texas history or need the experience for a school project. It has a very nice café with good food.
It's a fun and educational experience! I would recommend taking the family.

Click your heels together three times and repeat: There’s no place like Texas. And, there is no better place to learn about Texas than the new Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, located just five blocks from the State Capitol Building.
Named for the late Lt. Governor of Texas, this facility opened in April 2001 and houses over 700 artifacts, 17 media stations and 34,000 square feet of exhibit floor space on three levels, an IMAX theater and the Spirit of Texas Theater. The museum provides a history experience that recognizes that Texas is unique because of its history. On the floor as you enter is a 40-foot diameter mural. Around the campfire in the center is a symbolic gathering of Texas figures and icons. This is best seen by climbing the circular staircase that encircles the rotunda of the Museum to the third floor and then looking down.
