Overview
Last updated Jan-23-12
Montessori is unique in its core philosophy that recognizes every child’s innate potential and natural tendency toward learning. The Montessori classroom provides a broad range of materials and subjects which stimulate a child’s interest through self-directed activity and the carefully guided support of trained Montessori teachers. As each child develops in independence and self-confidence, a love of learning naturally follows.
Since our humble beginnings in 1968, our community has grown to serve more than 300 children, ages 3-9, at four West Hills Montessori campuses throughout the Portland Metro area. We invite you to visit our Blog to read more about the unique history of our program.
Welcoming applications! Call (503) 636-1408 to schedule a tour and observation of our program.

My daughter has been going here for almost 2 years. She started just before the age of 3. She is a shy child at first and got a lot of encouragement when she began. Now she is completely confident and growing at an amazing rate. She is learning so many new things. The environment allows her to progress at her own pace according to her interests. Her guide is wonderful and the facility is well maintained. I highly recommend this school to anyone who has children ages 3-6.

My son has been going here for almost a year now. I looked at a couple different Montessori Schools for him to attend, and this school was hands down the best! The staff is great, and so easy to talk to. And best of all my son loves it!

We chose this school for our daughter after 1. watching our friends' children attend for 6 years and 2. exploring a few other options.
In the six years that our friends' children attended, I did not hear one bad story about the school or staff. And we checked out some other schools and frankly, the facilities were verging on dirty and dank in comparison. It is gray so much of the year here that I wanted my daughter in as bright, clean and cheerful school as possible (who wouldn't?). Montessori stresses having an aesthetically-pleasing room for the children, and West Hills is particularly nice.
The teachers are very kind and handle the children so well. It is amazing to watch. And my daughter is just thriving.
Montessori can be off-putting because it is difficult to understand without putting some time into reading and observing the philosophy. It is well worth it though.
