Overview
Last updated Nov-12-08
The Oregon Zoo is home to animals from all corners of the world, including Asian elephants, Peruvian penguins and Arctic polar bears. From the mist-filled Africa Rain Forest to the majestic Great Northwest exhibits, the zoo encourages visitors to understand and experience the natural world. Committed to conservation of endangered species and their habitats—both locally and around the globe—the zoo is a center for wildlife preservation and field research. The Oregon Zoo’s award-winning education programs serve more than a half-million people both at the zoo and at schools, senior and community centers around the region. A summer concert series, seasonal events and the zoo railway help this popular Oregon attraction draw more than one million visitors each year. The Oregon Zoo is all of this, but it is also a safe place for families to share moments of discovery and fun.

I went to the zoo with my kids for the first time this spring. I had always heard great things about the zoo, especially how well they take care of the physical aspects of the zoo. When we went there was a lot of construction of new exhibits and areas. I was rather disappointed as some of the animals were not visible, or moved to different areas during the construction. I am really hoping that as they finish the construction the zoo will be back to its wonderful reputation. I am also excited to attend the summer concerts at the zoo.

The Oregon Zoo summer camp is a wonderful learning experience for our kids. After 2 summers my daughter wants to be a counselor there next year. Highly recommended albeit a bit expensive. And we also love the concert series.

We are so lucky to live in a place that has a world class zoo. They have really wonderful enviroments for the animals. The animals seem happy and well cared for. The new baby elephant is so darling, a must see and while your in that area don't miss the elephant ear stand or the birds of prey show.

As zoos go, Oregon Zoo is one of the best nation-wide. There are always new exhibits and updates being made throughout. It's a wonderful place to spend the day with your family and there are always activities happening during the summer months when the weather is best. Check out the summer concerts and Holiday Zoo Lights!

The Oregon Zoo is a fun place to go with a group of kids. The parking can be a bit troublesome at times if it is busy, but overall has been fine. The Zoo gives you a guide and you are able to go to the different parks of the zoo at your own leisure. They have had bird shows that are fun to watch out on the grass during the summer months. The animals are fun to look at and we all have our favorites. The otters are always fun to watch and spend some time. They also have a petting zoo for the little ones to pet goats and such. If the weather is hot, I would wait until another day to attend because a lot of the animals are sleeping when it is too hot.
When I go to the zoo, I go the 2nd Tuesday of the month when they have $2 admission. It ends up saving us a pretty penny to take a group and then there are more funds to do things like ride the train or buy yummy snacks. We love to get shaved ice and elephant ears as a treat when we go. The gift shop is fun to browse through, but many of the items seem overpriced. Some kids bring money to buy items and they can’t afford them. Also, make sure you get your had stamped if you need to run out to your car or you’ll get charged on the way in.

Definitely one of the better zoos in the Pacific Northwest. They have the most amazing habitats for their animals and are constantly working to keep their zoo updated. The train is also a fun way to tour the zoo if you have little ones. This is a fun place to visit during Christmas time when they have the "Zoo Lights". If your kids love the zoo, this is a good place to get an annual pass. There are also some very good zoo concerts in the summer.

Great zoo experience for the kids. The zoo puts a lot of effort into reinventing itself and trying to stay fresh. The primate section needs to be revamped but many of the other areas have been improved.
